Hope this Brings a Smile to Your Face….

Soup Bowl Antics…..

So today…. a blast from the past………..

Picture this: a splash of vibrant colours, a whimsical scene that invites laughter, and a curious hare having the time of its life in an unexpected setting. Yes, I’m talking about the above painting, "Soup Bowl Laughter"!

This big, bold artwork, brought to life using the vibrant medium of gouache, is all about bringing joy and humour to whoever lays eyes on it. "Soup Bowl Laughter" depicts a playful hare, cheerfully submerged in a bowl of soup, waving as if having the best pool party ever. And what's soup without a bit of company? Tiny, adorable bunnies float around the bowl, each adding to the cheerful chaos of this amusing scene.

The fun doesn’t stop there! Overhead, in bright red letters, the phrase "there's a hare in my soup" makes a bold statement. This not only enhances the humorous nature of the piece but ensures it leaves you chuckling. I went to art school before computers were a thing. So all those fine lines are with a ruling pen. Does any one else remember the agony of those finicky, fastidious and fussy pens? Oh the nightmares.

The background? I choose a vivid yellow that makes the blue bowl and the hare pop right out, creating a visual feast for the eyes.

Creating "Soup Bowl Laughter" was an assignment given during art school. It was quite big and done on illustration board. Through the process, one element is unique and delightfully quirky - I designed what I call a "bunny-bet.” Those bunnies floating in the soup aren’t random; they form the letters of the alphabet. They are swimming around like a secret puzzle waiting to be deciphered.

In essence, "Soup Bowl Laughter" is a testament to the joy of creativity and the playful spirit that art can encapsulate. It’s fun, imaginative, and designed to make you smile. I think it has all the hallmarks of student work, but it still makes me smile. After all, who wouldn’t giggle at the sight of a hare having a blast in a bowl of soup?
